A Christmas Of Racing Planned For Woodbine
Christmas is coming to Woodbine Mohawk Park. Ontario’s Woodbine Entertainment this week announced an all-new live racing schedule extending well into December and the holidays. Breaking with the traditional schedule will allow more people to enjoy more live racing action as the year draws to a close.
Following receipt of the necessary approvals from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, Woodbine Entertainment announced on Monday a complete re-shuffle of upcoming events. Races originally scheduled for the last week of March next year, have now been bumped up December 22, December 28, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.
The re-jigged schedule will allow more people to enjoy only the best in Canadian harness racing that the local industry has to offer.
New Dates To Be Saved
As for the traditional annual 9-day Christmas break, which break is every year dedicated to track maintenance at the world-renowned live horse racing location, Woodbine Entertainment has announced March 23 – March 31, 2021 to be the rescheduled timeslot. Those races originally scheduled for the final week in March 2021 are the same races that have now been brought closer on the annual calendar.
The main reason for the shift of schedule is to ensure a re-alignment with next spring’s live racing events. Since major events are scheduled months in advance all throughout the year so as to ensure an enjoyable time for everyone, it is important for certain changes to be implemented due to the long hiatus on all forms of horse racing earlier this year.
Several major races have had to be shifted from their traditional slots on the calendar so as to ensure the survival of events literally decades already annual instalments in the history of horse racing in the country.
More Races For Everyone
The announced changes to the end-of-year schedule aren’t the only reshufflings of the annual horse racing calendar.
So as to avoid an overlap with the 2020 Breeders’ Cup World Championships competed annually at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, Woodbine Entertainment has announced new times for November 6 and November 7’s races. Races scheduled for November 6 will commence at 4:45 p.m., while races set to be run on November 7 will head out the gates at 12:25 p.m.
As for the races scheduled for Keenland, all five Breeders’ Cup World Championship races for two-year-olds have been scheduled to take place on Friday, as well as five undercard races leading up to the first Breeder’s Cup race.
Twelve more races will be competed on Saturday – including three undercard races and nine Breeder’s Cup World Championship races.
