WPT To Co-Launch Live NFT Marketplace
The world of digital collectables is an interesting new force to be reckoned with in the global marketplace, and the World Poker Tour has just bought in on a piece of the action. Following a link-up with decentralised video delivery network Theta Labs, the World Poker Tour will officially co-launch an NFT marketplace together with the beginning of the new World Poker Tour season on April 18.
All of this means that Poker fans will now get to own special WPT moments. NFTs are presented in the form of digital tokens that can be purchased from an online marketplace. The content is compiled in digital parcels that contain the data the buyer is interested in acquiring. Such a deal is concluded by the buyer logging into an NFT marketplace in order to acquire said tokens – whether via a straight-up deal or by means of an online auction.
Rare Mike Sexton Up For The Bid
The WPT’s launch of its online NFT marketplace will celebrate its big premier by selling off on auction a rare and unique 3 for 3 moment involving legendary Poker commentator Mike Sexton. Auctioned off live, the token will pay tribute to the legend, who tragically passed away in September last year.
An extensive range of “heritage” content will be made available to fans via the World Poker Tour’s NTF marketplace. These will all be available to bid on. Fans interested in bidding on the special content parcels can now sign up and pre-register, the WPT has said.
It’s All For The Fans
To World Poker Tour CEO Adam Pliska, making special content available in this way is all about giving fans an engaged and real-time opportunity to own a special digital Poker collectable. Pliska said the NFT marketplace launch has to be one of the largest and most prominent digital initiatives the famous online Poker brand has ever embarked on.
Powering the entire NFT initiative for the World Poker Tour will be digital and blockchain provider, Theta Network.
The first instalment of the Theta Network WPT Cash Game (new World Poker tour season) will be staged on April 18, with a total of 4 episodes to be aired on consecutive Sundays thereafter.
Poker Officially Goes Blockchain
Particularly pleased by Poker’s upcoming link-up with the world of blockchain is two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner and famous WPT commentator Tony Dunst. The beloved commentator said he’s thrilled about the potential of new opportunities that could possibly come from Poker’s entry into the world of crypto and blockchain.
