WSOP Reveals Online Circuit Line-Up For ‘21
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) recently announced quite a line-up of online events to be played as part of a Circuit series of virtual events all throughout 2021. Since live Poker events may be off the table for a while yet, the idea is to provide the Poker community with the same type and quality of value-adding model players have become accustomed to at in-person competitions and tournaments.
A recent press release issued by the WSOP provides dates and details relating to a total of 12 WSOP Online Circuit events (one for every month of the year) scheduled for the coming year – with the possibility of a 13th “mystery market” hinted at also. Each of the events will feature at least 12 WSOP gold rings, with some events, depending on length, to offer as many as 18. More than 180 gold rings will be awarded throughout the coming year, the WSOP has confirmed.
$250k Grand Finale Championship
More exciting news is that the WSOP will also host a major year-end online championship event, not unlike the way in which the Circuit typically builds up toward the annual Global Casino Championship. The grand $250,000 Year-End Championship online grand finale will commence on Dec. 28.
Automatic entry into the grand finale will be awarded to the winners of gold rings earned throughout the year. Gold ring winners will be joined by everyone who has cashed out in a ring event and made it into the winners’ circle and onto the monthly leaderboards.
Potentially joining them will be anyone who has played at least four events part of any given series throughout the year. These players will get to compete in several “Second Chance Fast Forward” tournaments hosted throughout the year, with winners booking their seats in the $250,000 Year End Championship event. A total of 256 seats will be made available for the grand finale, the WSOP has said.
WSOP Optimistic Re Live Poker
According to WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart, the Poker giant remains optimistic about the possibility of big-scale live events eventually being back on the table in 2021. Even so, given the limitations and challenges the organisation continues to face resulting from restrictions imposed on gatherings, contract-tracing protocols, travel restrictions, etc., the decision was made to proceed with the expansion of the online Circuit, regardless.
The first event planned for the online Circuit series, the Winter Online Super Circuit, kicks off on Jan. 14-31, followed by the Planet Hollywood Circuit on Feb. 17-28.
