Canada Lotto 6/49 Winners
The March 22 results are in for the Canada Lotto 6/49 and they continue to reflect the diversity of the winners, both in geographic location and in demographics. There have been some big winners this week. Some lottery prizes were divided between a group of winners while others were presented to individual winners.
The Canada 6/49 lottery is a national game that’s played across Canada. It’s administered by provincial Gaming and Lotteries Commissions of participating provinces so regardless of your region, you’ll be able to participate in the lottery via your own provincial lotto.
To play the 6/49 Lotto, buy your ticket — tickets are available at local vendors or at the Lottery Canada website. Every ticket costs $3 and includes one set of numbers from one to forty nine for the Main Jackpot Draw and a second, ten-digit set of numbers for the $1-million guaranteed draw.
You can play multiple Canada Lotto 6/49 selections on one ticket including on the Quick Pick or Selection Slip games. If you play Quick Pick you select six numbers from a field of 1 to 49. To play a Selection Slip (Multiple Draw) game, tell the retailer how many draws you want or mark the number of draws that you want to play on the Selection Slip.
There’s a guaranteed $1 million prize payout every week. The Jackpot continues to grow through these weekly draws until one lucky player triggers the jackpot and wins the entire prize. You can play up to 26 draws in advance.
The Draws are held twice weekly, every Wednesday and Saturday. You’ll receive an email or text message if you win. The largest Lotto 6/49 jackpot ever won was a prize of $54.3 million, won in October 2005 by a group of Alberta oil and gas workers.
Close, But No Cigar
My numbers for this week were close but they didn’t match the winning numbers of 08 22 29 32 33 35 or the guaranteed number of 37350164-03 which assures a one million prize every draw. I was close enough, however, to feel encouraged about next week’s game. By searching the Winning Number Search, on the lotterycanada. com homepage, I was able to determine that my favorite numbers have, in fact, won in the past, so I feel that I’m on the right track.
Canada 6/49 Overview
Canada 6/49 Lotto provides Canadian residents with a safe and secure lottery option. It was the first Canadian lottery in which players were able to choose their own numbers since, prior to this, lottery tickets were pre-printed with assigned numbers which made the game more like a raffle. The old-style raffle draws were phased out in 1982, making way for the interactive lottery games that we enjoy today.
There are five participating provincial organisations which join together for the Canadian lottery including the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the Loto-Québec and the Western Canada Lotto Corporation. These organisations run Canada Lotto 6/49 independently for their selected territories but they operate under the overall control of the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation.
How to Play
Playing Canada 6/49 requires that you choose six main numbers from a pool of numbers ranging from 1 to 49. You then try to match all six numbers to the numbers that are selected in the bi-weekly draws. In most locations you can select up to ten lines per ticket but for players in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Yukon and Nunavut (provinces where the lotto is operated by the Western Lottery Corporation) you can only select up to six lines per ticket. If you pick all six numbers you win the jackpot. The minimum jackpot is 5 million CAD. If more than one ticket holder wins the top prize, the jackpot will be shared equally between them. In the event there are no top prize winners, the jackpot will roll over to the following draw. The rollover feature has enabled the 6/49 jackpots to grow to huge amounts — to date, the largest prize won stood at 63.4 million CAD which was won by four ticket holders in April of 2013.
The Canada 6/49 Guaranteed Prize Draw was launched in 2013. This Guaranteed Prize Draw gives players the chance to win 1 million CAD in every draw. You receive one free entry into this game with every line of 6/49 numbers that you purchase.
The Canada 6/49 draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday evening at 21.20, Eastern Standard Time. You can buy your lottery tickets for each individual draw or you can play the same numbers on several consecutive draws in advance.
High Stakes vs. Low Stakes
Every player has his or her own agenda when playing the lottery including the kind of wagers that they want to lay. Some gamers prefer to play “hot hand” games and go with perceived winning streaks and general feelings of luck and good fortune.
My personal feeling is that it’s important to have a gaming budget and stick to it. Gaming is entertainment, just like any other type of entertainment, and when engaging in that kind of activity, it’s important to know how you’re going to budget your resources. For that reason, when I play the 6/49 Canadian Lottery, I generally aim towards the guaranteed weekly prize, as opposed to the Jackpot prize. My view isn’t shared by everyone, but for me, it seems more worthwhile to keep a more realistic goal in mind, rather than try to achieve a once-in-a-lifetime prize.
