40th Terry Fox Anniversary Shoes A Huge Hit
The timelessness of Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope in support of cancer research exactly 40 years ago has once again been reaffirmed. Fox ran his 1980 cross-country marathon passage in a pair of Adidas sneakers of royal blue and thanks to a special 40th anniversary remembrance celebration spearheaded by the sports gear giant, some very fortunate and satisfied Fox-fans have just gotten their hands on their very own replicated pair of Fox’s signature jogger’s footwear.
In addition to the limited-time collection of signature running soles, Adidas also produced a limited number of commemorative shirts in honour of Fox and the millions of dollars the legendary runner managed to raise for cancer research with his Marathon of Hope. All proceeds, not unlike what had been the case at the time of the marathon’s 25th anniversary, are going towards the Terry Fox foundation, the sportswear behemoth has confirmed.
Sold Out In Minutes
So passionate are Fox’s beloved fans about the man and his wonderful cause, even after as long a time as nearly half of a century on, that all of the special commemorative products sold out completely within the first 10 minutes after sales had opened on Wednesday morning. So mad was the rush that not even Terry’s brother Fred had been able to get his hands on any of the special memorabilia.
Fred Fox later than day told a prominent Canada-based media page that he had, not unlike thousands of other Canadians, tried to get his hands on a T-shirt, but wasn’t able to secure even one. Fox did later on address a special request to the sportswear giant that ultimately convinced Adidas to send him a pair of shoes!
Inspired By Terry
Some lucky notable Canadian sports stars did enjoy the privilege having nabbed a pair of Terry’s favourite brand of running sneaks pre-launch. Figure skater Tessa Virtue showed off her pair of commemorative royal blue Adidas Orions in a post in honour of her hero Fox on Instagram.
Hockey personality Ron MacLean was another one of the lucky select few to have secured a pair ahead of the rush. What had obviously inspired MacLean about Terry Fox had been his “one step at a time” attitude. MacLean wrote on Instagram how Fox had on occasion been asked how he had managed to run a marathon a day, to which the legendary runner replied that he had simply run to a telephone pole and upon arrival, had run to the next one.
Simple words about simple strides spoken by a true giant.
