Why Tatiana Maslany Is The Perfect She-Hulk
Those who marvelled (yes, literally) at all fourteen characters played by her in the award-winning series “Orphan Black” will know that it was only a matter of time before Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany landed a master role in a production the size and prominence of the upcoming new Marvel Series for Disney Plus.
Though not yet confirmed by Maslany herself, the Deadline announcement practically had Twitter imploding in on itself on Thursday, leading to hundreds of overjoyed congratulatory shout-outs, including a particularly warm word of welcome from Mark Ruffalo, who plays the role of Hulk, aka She-Hulk’s on-screen cousin.
Set to play the role of She-Hulk, an attorney at law meets Avenger for justice, Maslany’s character (Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk’s public alter-ego)will according to Variety, unlike cousin Hulk, retain most of her emotional control, personality, intelligence, etc., whenever she “hulks up”.
What fans also know is that the Canadian actress is perfect for the role, and the reasons for this are many.
An Incredibly Versatile Actress
Versatile. Incredible range. You name it, and she’s got it. In Orphan Black, Maslany embodied and perfectly brought to life a stunning total of fourteen characters.
Maslany’s Orphan Black characters span an extensive range in terms of personality, age, and even gender. The Canadian actress in one particular scene even did the voice for a talking scorpion her character had embodied in a hallucination.
That’s right, Maslany even lends credibility to talking, hallucinating scorpions.
The Close Call With Star Wars
Though she ultimately lost the role to Felicity Jones, Maslany very nearly in 2015 landed the lead role playing Jyn Erso in Star Wars spin-off movie, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.
But only just the fact that she made it as far as what she did in the casting process is a tip of the hat to the incredible actress. We’re talking Star Wars, after all!
Maslany Nailed “Helena”
Is it really even necessary to say more?
Helena, one of the clones played by Maslany on Orphan Black, had to have been one of the most challenging characters ever brought to life. Ruthless but royal, Helena was as an orphan taken into the home of a couple who would ultimately train her to become a ruthless killer.
But more than a ruthless killer, Helena grows into a character all of her own making – a sharpshoot sniper who thinks nothing of killing if that means protecting the ones she loves.
Challenging, perhaps, but no challenge for Tatiana Maslany.
