Covid-19 Has John Prine Critically Ill
Long-time singer/songwriter John Prine is critically ill with Covid-19 and is currently fighting for his life in hospital. Prine’s wife Fiona Whelan Prine took to Twitter on Sunday and announced that Prine had contracted the Coronavirus and was in hospital and stable, but that prayers and love were urgently needed – both for her husband as well as for the thousands of others battling the disease, for which there is currently no cure.
Prine was according to information released by his family, taken to hospital on March 26 after he had experienced a “sudden onset” of Covid-19 symptoms. He was eventually intubated (invasive ventilation) on Saturday evening, and his situation is now regarded as medically critical. The statement went on to say that the family acknowledged that Prine had throughout his career enjoyed the love of support of thousands of fans and that he now more than ever, needed exactly the same love and support during his desperate hour of need.
Fiona Prine Has Recovered
Wife Fiona tested positive for the Coronavirus earlier on in March and at the time confirmed to the media that the couple was quarantined as well as in separate self-isolation. Fiona is John Prine’s wife as well as his manager, and has since confirmed having recovered in full from Covid-19. Husband John’s test had apparently initially come back as “indeterminate”, but it’s since become obvious that the country and folk music star had indeed contracted the potentially deadly disease.
The 73-year-old artist had before the sudden onset of covid-19 symptoms been an active musician in terms of performances and live music. He had in fact had quite a number of shows booked for the month of May as part of a special summer music tour. These have obviously all been put on hold pending a final outcome regarding Prine’s state of health and chances of a recovery from the deadly disease.
He Beat Cancer Twice Before
Prine has throughout the course of his professional music career successfully fought off cancer a total of two times. He was most recently diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013 and subsequently had to have a section of one of his lungs removed. The surgery to his lungs did have somewhat of an effect on his voice, but not to the extent that it in any way affected his ability to make music and take his music on tour.
Prine is considered one of the oldest living and performing artists in country and folk music today and without a doubt would have more good years in music had it not been for the onset of the disease. He is classified as particularly high risk due to his age and medical health history, but his family and fans continue in the hope that the artist will recover from the disease and will soon be able to bring his music to this friend and family and fans once more.
The family has promised to regularly update his friends and fans regarding his condition as it continues to develop.
