Beloved Actor Irrfan Khan Dies Aged 54
Popular Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, who starred in dozens of Hindi-language films and shot to round-the-world fame after he appeared in movies like Jurassic World, Slumdog Millionaire and Yann Martel’s Life of Pi, has died in Mumbai at age 54. His death was confirmed to the mainstream media by Ahmed Khan, who confirmed that the beloved actor had died in a Mumbai-hospital after having been admitted and part-treated for an infection in his colon. The actor had apparently also undergone treatment for what is considered a very rare form of neuroendocrine cancer, which is known to cause uncontrollable tumors mainly in the liver and colon. Neuroendocrine cancer is widely referred to as the “forgotten cancer” and is particularly tricky to diagnose. The late actor was first diagnosed with cancer back in 2018.
Khan’s team described the actor as someone in possession of a strong soul, and a man who not once gave up the fight against cancer, causing everyone he came into contact with to be inspired by his spirit of hope and tenacity. The actor throughout the course of his celebrated career won no fewer than four Filmfare awards – these are Bollywood awards considered to be on par with the annual Academy Awards.
Khan Had Raw Talent
Khan will also be remembered as a talented and prolific actor, having throughout the course of his career as a big-screen actor starred in at least 50 Bollywood films. His final Bollywood project was the Hindi comedy/drama Angrezi Medium. Khan in Angrezi Medium portrayed the role of a middle-class single father who desperately wants to fulfil his daughter’s only dream of being able to afford studying in London, England.3
The film was released earlier on this year on March 13 and is effectively Khan’s last official movie ever. The actor’s death is mourned by thousands of people all over the world, but especially so by those who knew him personally or in a professional capacity. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the actor’s death as a major loss to the world of cinema as well as live theatre and tributes even now continue to flood social media pages.
Remembering His Early Life
The dearly departed actor was born on January 7th, 1966 in Rajasthan, India, which is a state situated in the northwestern part of the country. Full names Sahabzada Irfan Ali Kahn, the actor was supposedly of royal lineage, as indicated by the inclusion of “Sahabzada”, a title referring to a royal Indian bloodline.
The actor however dropped this title early on in life and did not enjoy being referred to as someone considered higher or better than those around him. It was also he who added the additional “r” to his name. Khan’s father is said to have owned a highly successful tyre business in India.
