Fans Treated To Special Country Music Awards

Americans may have to wait until September 16th for this year’s in-person live Academy of Country Music Awards, but that doesn’t mean that fans will have to go without all of the special performances that have made the Awards event such a special instalment on the annual calendar. Thanks to an initiative hosted by TV personality and talk show host Gayle King, titled “ACM Presents: Our Country”, a very special two-hour special featuring country music greats like Brandi Carlisle, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban and Shania Twain was aired on Sunday, April 5.

Not only did the special broadcast feature in-home acoustic performances, but there were also conversations about past ACM Awards moments. The special turned out to be an event every bit as meaningful to the industry and to fans as what the annual live Awards event has been each year.

Tributes To Two Greats

The streamed broadcast also featured pre-show artists like Lee Brice, Ingrid Andress and Lauren Alaina, which made for even more of a country music variety. A very special addition was that Chris Young having paid tribute during the pre-show to the recently deceased Joe Diffie. Diffie was considered a country music legend and passed away on March 29 after he was confirmed to have contracted the novel coronavirus.

10-time ACM Awards winner Kenny Rogers enjoyed a special moment on the show too, with artists Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker and Luke Bryan all having contributed to a special medley of Rogers’ music. Rogers too, passed away recently, but not of coronavirus-related issues.

Urban Thanks Medical Staff

Artist Keith Urban, who will host the now-postponed Awards ceremony come September 16th, could be seen opening the special digital broadcast performing his “Wasted Time” in his studio at his home. Urban joked that his studio was beginning to feel a lot like his living room and that the only thing he missed in the room was his wife, Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman.

Urban then went on to deliver a heart-felt message of gratitude to all first-care responders showing up to the challenge of fighting the effects of the virus by fighting to save the lives of those affected by Covid-19. The singer thanked health workers and everybody working in the field of health care in general, all over world, and said that these were the people risking a great deal for many others no longer to continue the fight on their own.

Shania Did It Different

Another highlight of the digital production was the appearance of country group Lady Antebellum. The group offered a poignant insight into what a new reality now looks like amid the spread of the deadly coronavirus, in that they were joined by their kids during their performance of their smash hit, “What I’m Leaving For.”

Many others made special appearances and delivered very meaningful messages too. Canadian superstar Shania Twain stole the show in many ways when she appeared complete with a small audience that included a very sleepy dog and a cute and curious horse, for a unique performance of her hits, “Honey I’m Home”, and “Man, I feel like a woman”.
