888 Joins Ontario Regulated iGaming Market
The iGaming market in Ontario is well and truly taking off. The latest giant gambling corporation to enter the market is 888, an organisation recognised as amongst the biggest in the industry. According to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) 888 has now officially been granted a license, which means that the mega-corporation is legally allowed to offer services. This certainly won’t be the last company to get a license, though it is amongst the biggest to be granted access so far.
Of course, the Ontario iGaming market isn’t even open yet. At least it isn’t open to foreign entities. The floodgates are expected to be raised to foreign corporations on April 4th, 2022, which means that 888 is ready for action well in advance. Rumours originally circulated that the official opening would be at the end of 2021, but several delays pushed the date back into 2022.
April 4th appears to be official, but there is still the risk of further unexpected delays. As it stands, however, April will mark a whole new era for online casino loving Ontarians.
Welcome To The Party
888 has already confirmed that it will be bringing its entire catalogue of services to the region. This includes online casino games, sports betting services, and online Poker, all to be made available via the company’s in-house software. Though, this excellent range of products will be up against fierce competition. Other iGaming giants like PointsBet and theScore have also already claimed their operating licenses, meaning that Ontario is about to become an iGaming battleground.
888 CEO, Itai Pazner, released a statement on the development. He expressed happiness at having been granted a license by the AGCO, adding that he is greatly looking forward to launching in the area. He continued by saying that the move represents a long-term growth opportunity, pointing out that there is plenty of room to expand in both the Ontario market, and Canada as a whole.
A Major Global Player
Looking closer at the company itself, 888 is without question a major global force of iGaming. The organisation is currently present in 19 regulated markets, including 7 in the United States. Hence it isn’t surprising that the corporation’s attention turned to Canada. Ontario is, after all, rumoured to be evolving into a key online gambling region.
In other related news, the Mississauga of Scugog Island First Nation has been less than pleased with the AGCO, and the local government. The tribe has already declared that it will be seeking legal action against what it sees as action taken without its consent.
More news in this regard will certainly be incoming in the near future.
