The Stars Group Inks New Deal with Akwesasne Mohawk
According to recent press reports, Canadian online gambling giant The Stars Group and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort have entered a lucrative new partnership deal. Under the terms of the agreement, TSG will gain access to the latter’s iGaming, betting and retail sportsbook markets, subject to regulatory approval, state laws, and license availability.
The 5,200 square foot resort, which is owned and operated by the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, has granted The Stars Group the option to brand and operate its real money online betting, poker and casino offerings in New York. These rights have been granted on a first skin basis.
Growing Market Access
It was only a few months ago when the New York State Gaming Commission approved the state’s entry, in the hopes that its very first sportsbooks could launch mere weeks after. This is particularly important for the area considering that the start date of the National Football League in September is edging ever closer.
According to New York law, sports betting can only be supplied at four pre-approved up-state casinos; Rivers Casino in Schenectady, del Lago Casino in Rochester, Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, and Tioga Downs near Binghamton. Additionally, seven tribal facilities also hold exclusive rights to supply such services to the public.
Speaking about the ground-breaking new agreement, CEO of Fox Bet (The Stars Group’s new US sports betting brand) Robin Chabra has noted that his company is excited to announce the deal with Mohawk. Chabra added that the agreement would further improve TSG’s market access as it works to build its Fox Bet business into one of the emerging US betting industry’s leading players.
Lounge to Be Ready for NFL Season
Additionally, the agreement will also supply support services directly to Mohawk, relating to the launch of operations of the retail sportsbook in Northern New York. The tribal entity is set to receive a share of the revenues from online operation, with TSG aiming to claim its own share from the operation of the retail sportsbook facility.
Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort General Manager Todd Papineau has further explained that his resort is pleased to be elevating its sports betting experience for guests in its brand new sports lounge. He described the lounge as a 5,200 square foot wagering hub that will be up, running and ready for action during the upcoming NFL season.
Papineau further stated that once permitted in the state, his organization will be ready to accept sports bets through its newly-built kiosks. With its wide range of iGaming and betting solutions and PokerStars and Fox Bet brands by its side, he said, his resort believes that The Stars Group is the perfect partner in this venture, positioning it to become a formidable force in the US digital industry.
