Casino New Brunswick has been bought by the Great Canadian Gaming for $95 million dollars. The British Columbia-based corporation purchased the casino which has been operating since 2010. Casino New Brunswick is the only land-based casino in the province of New Brunswick.

Great Canadian Gaming is already responsible for casino operations in Victoria and Surrey, Naniamo and Dawson Creek British Columbia, Halifax and Sydney Nova Scotia and Dundas and InnisfilOntario. The GCG also operates the Great American Casinos of Lakeview and Everett in Washington State.

In announcing the purchase, the Great Canadian Gaming corporation’s spokesperson noted that his company feels that the purchase of the casino offers the corporation the opportunity to grow and expand in a small but growing market. The casino serves the city of Moncton as well as other visitors who come to play from other locations in New Brunswick and even from outside of the province. “We are extremely excited at the prospect of welcoming CNB and its over 400 employees to the Great Canadian team” company president Rod Baker said in announcing the purchase.

The New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation, the agency designated by the provincial government of New Brunswick to oversee all gambling activities in the province, must now approve the purchase but most observers do not foresee any problems and believe that the deal will be closed by September 2015.

The deal was initiated when the Great Canadian Gaming corporation approached the casino’s previous owners, Soncio, with a generous financial offer. Sonco’s Edmundsston casino, the Grey Rock Casino, is not affected by the purchase of the Casino New Brunswick.

Casino New Brunswick has been operating since 2010. In 2014, the casino generated close to $40 million. As per the agreement with the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation, part of the revenue from casino profits will continue to be shared with the province of New Brunswick. These monies are used to help fund various charities and non-profit organizations.
