MGM Reaches 1M GameSense Milestone
When MGM Resorts International in 2017 adopted the BCLC-developed GameSense safer gambling initiative, it in all likelihood did not expect that the 1 million customer interactions mark would be reached in a matter of only two years. But the program focusing on instigating honest and proactive conversations about the dangers of problem gambling has proved exceptionally effective and popular among players and the casino group’s properties all over the world.
The implementation of the initiative is made practically possible by means of the training of staff that eventually become equipped to offer advice to all guests. Guests are encouraged to approach the specially trained staff at each venue’s M Rewards desk.
A Homegrown Initiative
The program was; as indicated earlier on; developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation and encourages guests/players to engage with the trained staff positioned at the stations as well as to utilized custom-designed touch-screens in order to access information and a variety of readily available resources relating to various topics associated with safer gambling practices.
The motivation behind the program is to keep gambling fun and to reduce gambling-related harm by educating guests on how to adopt a responsible approach to gambling. In fact, so effective is the Canadian-developed initiative now deemed to be, that it has earned special recognition from the National Program on Responsible Gambling in the US.
Better Than Perfect Timing
The fact that the 1 million milestone was reached mere days before National Responsible Gambling Week (September 16 to 20) makes it all the more thrilling and rewarding, said Rich Taylor during a recent interview. Taylor is MGM’s Executive Director of Responsible Gaming.
The week in question is in itself an important one on the annual calendar for the national gambling industry as it not only brings together key shareholders and leading authorities, but its also the chance to showcase the various milestones reached in terms of responsible gambling practices.
An added bonus is that National Responsible Gambling Week this year takes place right on the cusp of the “evening” leading up to MGM’s newly remodelled sports book launch. Better yet, all of the PR goodness has come to pass directly ahead of the new US NFL football season. A large influx of guests is expected at MGM venues all over the US and the betting and gaming giant can now expect to reap the dividends of its commitment to the exceptionally worthwhile BCLC-driven player safety initiative.
