MATCH Eatery Reopens At Cascades Chatham

Gambling at the premises of Gateway’s Cascades Casino Chatham may for the moment remain closed, but the good news is that the entertainment venue’s on-site food courts are about to be re-opened to the general public – both for in-person dining as well as for takeout orders for collection and delivery.

All 25 of Gateway’s casinos and adjacent eateries and venues have been closed since mid-March, when the health crisis first reared its head on Canadian soil. These and other closures obviously paid the local economy no favours – which is why recent announcements confirming the commencement of gradual reopening’s are considered very good news indeed.

Limits Pose A Problem

Since Ontario is now officially in Stage 3 of the country’s economic reopening plan, Gateway is in actual fact at liberty to not only reopen eateries such as its famous MATCH Eatery & Public House, but also its casino gaming floors.

The problem however – and the reason Gateway did not instantly leap at the opportunity by opening its casino floors and games tables – is that government’s reopening green-light is subject to quite a few difficult-to-navigate restrictions and conditions.

What Gateway considers to be a particularly tricky challenge to navigate is that indoor gaming activities are only permitted to resume on the condition that only 50 individuals will be permitted to enter into an enclosed building at any given time. An occupancy limit as strict as this, even though intended to protect players, guests, and casino staff – simply isn’t practical or financially viable when looking at the bigger commercial picture.

Venues that have been cleared for reopening include casinos and gaming venues located in Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Rama, Innisfil, Chatham, London, Hanover, Woodstock, and Clinton. Due to concerns over long-term sustainability at current occupancy limits, Gateway has elected not to reopen any of its casinos – regardless of the reopening thumbs up received from provincial government.

Making A Safe Return

Staff members employed by Gateway’s MATCH restaurant at Cascades Casino Chatham were able to return to their place of employment on July 30.

Employees being in a position to return to their places of employment for the first time in four months is according to Brent Dallimore, Director of Food and Beverages at Gateway Casinos Eastern Canada, a great relief for many people. Dallimore also confirmed that all possible safety measures have been implemented at MATCH at Cascades so as to ensure the safety of customers and restaurant staff.
