IGT & William Hill Bag Sports Betting Deal
Leading gaming systems developer IGT (International Game Technology) has at long last revealed that it has been chosen in partnership with the American arm of British bookie William Hill to supply the Rhode Island Lottery with a new sports betting service package.
The pair of companies revealed the five-year content arrangement through a press release on Friday, while also detailing their plans to start offering sports betting at the state’s Twin River Casino and upcoming Tiverton Casino Hotel by mid-November this year.
Italy-headquartered IGT further explained that the exclusive deal could be extended through mutual consent for up to two consecutive five-year terms, should the Rhode Island Lottery choose to do so. The deal will also see the upcoming state-wide sports betting service using its very own platform, with William Hill providing its operational and risk management systems behind the scenes.
Six US States Legalize Betting
Rhode Island has recently become one of six US states to legalize sports betting in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to nix the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) back in May. Of the states to have legalized betting, only New Jersey, Mississippi and Delaware currently offer bookmaking services, with Pennsylvania and West Virginia still in the process of drafting appropriate local regulations.
North America Chief Executive Officer for IGT Renato Ascoli has noted that the agreement puts both his company and William Hill in unique positions to supply the Rhode Island Lottery with an extensive, market-ready betting solution. According to Ascoli, this offering will be designed to maximise betting revenues and returns to ‘good causes’ alike.
Elaborating further, Ascoli added that his company is pleased that Rhode Island is the first lotto supplier to establish sports-betting operations in the wake of PASPA’s repeal. The company, he said, is a world leader in the provision of sports betting technology in the US, making them an ideal partner for this historic venture.
William Hill CEO Offers Comments
Chief Executive Officer for William Hill US Joe Asher also offered his thoughts on the agreement, describing their new business partner as a ‘world-class’ gaming tech provider and noting that his company could not be more pleased to be collaborating with the firm to supply Rhode Island with a first-rate sports betting solution.
As mentioned above, the services stipulated under the new arrangement are scheduled to be launched later this year. As Rhode Island has already drafted the necessary legislature needed to offer legal real money opportunities to its residents, all that is left for the two suppliers to do is to put the logistics in place and launch their ground breaking technology to the state’s eager market.
