Casinos Contributing Millions To Communities
Fingers are often pointed at the global casino industry as being one given to all sorts of negative tendencies, with BC’s long-time money laundering problems being a prime example. It’s as if the province cannot manage to successfully dig itself out of a very particular hole, and it hasn’t been the result of a lack of trying. There’s also black market business, gambling addictions and under-age gaming to contend with. All in all, it’s a very volatile situation indeed. This is made a great deal worse by the fact that people tend to be more drawn to bad news and sensation than what they are to positive and uplifting news. But that doesn’t imply a shortage of the last-mentioned because casinos are contributing more money and resources to their local communities than are most other local businesses. And this is true the world over.
Two casino businesses apparently particularly fond of giving are the Casino Niagara and the Niagara Fallsview Casino. The duo managed to accumulate and hand out a combined CA$7.1 million in community contributions during the first quarter of the current financial year alone.
Contributions By No Means Small
The contributions were generated mainly in April/June. This was a time when there was much excitement going on following the announcement of new management at the casinos. Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment acquired both Niagara casinos when it managed to outbid all other interested parties late last fall.
And really, CA$7.1 million may seem to some to not be “all that”, but when considering that the surrounding communities have to date bagged in excess of $48 million in cash that they would not otherwise have had, any commitment to the cause is well worth it.
The OLG Makes Milton Beautiful
But the communities of Niagara and surrounds aren’t the only ones to have benefited from contributions made by Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment. The smaller town of Milton recently received its own share of the apple pie when it received a stunning CA$2.6 million from the operator in return for the privilege to operate its Elements Casino Mohawk.
The town of Milton has over the course of the past 20 years, and thanks to a relentless commitment towards community development on the part of the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation, bagged a splendid CA$117 million in favour if the community. All sorts of projects have been earmarked in terms of how the latest in contributions will be spent and beautification work across the town of Milton appears to be enjoying priority attention.
