Architects Celebrate Parq Vancouver’s Design
In collaboration with IBI Group, Canadian firms ACDF Architecture and Architecture 49 put great thought into the design of their latest major project – the popular Parq Vancouver casino.
The urban oasis boasts a 72,000 square foot gaming floor, two luxury hotels, a spa and fitness center, eight boutique restaurants, a 30,000 square foot rooftop parkade, and an impressive 60,000 square feet of conference and event space for its guests.
Speaking about the hot new Vancouver gambling hub, lead design architect of the project Maxime Frappier noted that the establishment was conceived as the missing piece between BC Place stadium’s active environment and the buzzing entertainment district of the city’s down-town locale. He added that his team created a design that not only meets these requirements, but also captures Vancouver’s unique essence and showcases its beautiful natural surroundings.
A Celebration of Urban Vibrancy
According to the professional architectural team, the resort and entertainment complex that straddles the Gastown and Yaletown neighborhoods has been constructed as a tribute to the region’s diverse mix of cultural and natural vibes. The casino’s design elements reflect the nearby stadium’s own architecture, where the team managed to engineer an attractive flow that extends all the way from BC Place and Parq Vancouver to the complex’s bordering landscapes and urban areas.
The multi-functional event and meeting space at Parq consists of a number of board rooms, flexibly designed meeting spaces, and no less than 13 exclusive ballrooms, including the 15,604 square foot Parq Grand Ballroom.
Constructed according to the exacting standards of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the venue is also remarkably environmentally friendly, as is to be expected in the modern age. It achieves this with its massive 30,000 square foot outdoor park situated on its sixth level, which offers a home for over 200 native pine trees and an array of tens of thousands of local plants.
Eco Park Adds a ‘Green’ Element
Elaborating further on his work, Frappier noted that the eco-park adds a ‘sustainable element’ to the complex, and is also a great example of an innovative but stylish use of green space. In his mind, when this atmosphere is paired with the stunning scenic views that surround the casino, it allows nature to flood into the core of a vibrant urban environment.
The JW Marriott Parq Vancouver Casino officially opened its doors to the public on 29 September 2017, and since then has worked consistently to become the heart of gaming and entertainment in its native city. Despite a few hitches along the way, including a recent altercation with local rapper Drake, the establishment continues to impress residents and tourists alike with its memorable mix of rewarding fun, aesthetic pleasure, and flawless functionality.
